A Study On Alain Robbe-grillet’s Narrative Art

In this paper,we would use narratology to explore Alain Robbe-Grillet’s novels,especially his later novels’ innovative narrative art,from the aspects of materialism,uncertain narrator,repetition and vacancy.And also analysis readers’ effect after reading his novels and the influences on Chinese writers.While analyzing the narrative techniques and art value of Grillet’s novels,it also analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of his novel’ narrative techniques and the limitations of his novels which resulting the new novel in fading.There are lots of innovations in his novels’ narrative techniques,which intended to break the traditional narrative techniques.The main techniques are as follows.First,let the object in the main position,and objectively describe the object for the reader to show the true colors of the world at the same time,but also reduce the human status,which would result the reader unfamiliar sense of the world;second,the narrator’s identity is complex and varied,narrator can be changed freely at the narrative process,which could provide readers different perspectives of the world’s appearance,as well as the fun of tracking clues of the story.Thirdly,the use of repetition,which means use the same material and the same sentence in one novel,and the same subject appeared in different novels,to result redundant information and break the reader’s reading habits.Fourthly,the exist of vacancies,mainly reflected in the plot arrangement,the character description,the time of the story and the color of things,let the novel lack of logic,add the obstacle at the process of reading.The use of each narrative techniques are reflect Alain Robble-Grillet’s attitude of innovation in the narrative techniques of novel,setting reading obstacles for readers continuously,not only bring the exploring fun to readers,but also give the additional task to readers which participate in the process of re-creation of novel,unfortunately,its also challenging the reader’s aesthetic experience and reading habits continuously.Under this position,Readers are wanted to participate in the re-creation of the invitation to participate,so that readers need take the initiative with their own life experience to understand the work to complete the work of re-creation.Alain Robble-Grillet,as one of the advocate and creator of the new novel,which is the backbone of the new novel both in theoretical writing and works creation,and promoted the development of the new novel,explored the possibility of thedevelopment of the novel.But because of his overly self-examination,he become extreme gradually,give too much emphasis on the form and structure of the novel,so that ignoring describe the characters,plot and environment of the novel,which add reading barriers for readers,and cause the readers lost interest in reading,ultimately result the new novel lost it’s attractive to the readers.
