| English for science and technology(EST)plays a vital role in the development of language,culture as well as scientific and technological progress in different countries.Regardless of the structure or phrase,writing style,scientific English has its own features,such as the specialization of commonly-used term and nominalization on morphology and the focus on the narrative logic coherence and the clarity and fluency on expression.Therefore,the translator has to handle the characteristics of EST in the process of translation,and in accordance with the actual expression of specific text,adopt proper translation strategies to improve the quality of translation.This translation practice provides necessary materials related to domestic landscape gardening study and it can accelerate the development of this discipline,which is helpful for the readers to understand how to balance and coordinate the development between personal health and social progress,and to verify the function of Skopos theory on EST translation.This paper is a translation project report.This translation project is about the first part and half of the second part of Landscape and Urban Design for Health and Well-Being.This translation report consists of five parts.First of all,it describes the background,purpose and importance of the project as well as the structure of this report.And the second part is about the translation process which includes the preparation as well as the textual and non-textual analysis about this book.What’s more,it analyzes the content of Skopos theory and how to apply it to the translation practice.And this part also discusses the steps and methods in the process of translation such as following the syntactic order and free translation and literal translation.The third part is the case study about the translation,which includes the theoretical and strategic discussion on difficulties,problems and solutions with specific examples from this translation project.Besides,it also lists several difficulties that the translator has met,such as cultural differences and the accuracy of technical terms’ translation.Then,the most important part of this report discusses the principles that EST translation should follow in translation progress as well as the usage of theories and approaches.Besides,according to the Skopos theory,the translator uses a variety of translation strategies and skills to convey the information from source language accurately and sacaled on the level of being equal to the source text.The last part summarizes the experiences and lessons in the process of translation,and the unsolved problems,and puts forward some suggestions for further improvement. |
