With globalization progressing at an ever-quickening pace, the interconnectedness between nations creates an ever-growing demand for interpreters. For some time,Chinese institutions of higher learning have been initiating interpreting courses to cultivate more qualified interpreters in order to meet the needs of economic development of all fields. However, due to the lack of practical experience, student interpreters are too often a far cry from the competitive standard of a professional interpreter. The thesis, directed by Second Language Acquisition theory especially Error Analysis theory, aims to study the factors influencing students’ interpreting ability and find out ways to solve the problems.By collecting the students’ final examination recordings of their Consecutive Interpreting Course, the author has transcribed the recordings from Chinese into English of 154 undergraduate students of School of Foreign Languages,DUT,and made comparison with the suggested versions.Student interpreters’ errors are classified into three types from the perspective of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis: figure errors, phonetic errors, grammatical and lexical errors. After error analysis, suggestions including reducing interlingual interference and intralingual interference, strengthening ability of listening, oral expressions and psychological ability are proposed. The study is expected to be significant in improving student interpreters’ ability and interpreting teaching.
