| As we all know,English is the most widely used language around the world.As the society develops,the possibility of communicating in English is increasing.Spoken English plays a more important role than before.It is the teaching quality of Spoken English that influences the speaking ability of the students.However,the present teaching situation is not satisfactory,such as the ”dumb English ”phenomenon,the ignorance of Spoken English teaching,the immature test system,etc.In order to know the problems existing in spoken English teaching and find out the corresponding countermeasures.The author selects the faculties and students from four universities and colleges in Jilin Province as the subjects,including 50 lecturers and 182 students.And the results of the research come from questionnaires and interviews.The author comes up with two research questions.One is what are the problems in spoken English teaching,the other is how to solve these problems.It shows that the problems are from three aspects.The problems caused by the students are their negative attitude to oral English and their improper learning habits,the problem caused by the teachers is they don’t pay enough attention to spoken English teaching,and the problems caused by the universities are their incomplete monitoring and their indefinite teaching demand of the spoken English teaching.The thesis consists of five chapters.Chapter one: Introduction.Firstly,the author introduces the background of the research,points out the problems in oral English teaching for English majors and raises the research questions.Secondly,the author expounds the motives and significance of the study.At the end of this chapter,the author introduces the overall layout of the thesis.Chapter two: Literature review.First of all,the author explains some theories,and introduces the purpose,principles,the content and theoretical basis of oral English teaching.Then the author introduces the research status.Besides,the author introduces the standards of the oral English teaching in universities and colleges.Chapter three: The plan and implementation of the research.The author mainly illustrates the necessary elements such as the purpose,the subjects,the methods and the processes of the research.In addition,the author analyzes the statistics and describes the problems.Chapter four: Problems and countermeasures.In this part,the author makes a further generalization.The author puts forward twenty six problems and corresponding countermeasures.Chapter five: Conclusion.On the basis of the previous research,the author summarizes the study and points out the limitations of this study. |
