Research On Drifters And Sino-foreign Relations(From The 5th Century To The 14th Century)

Due to the limited shipbuilding technology and uncertain factors such as stormy waves,the drifters remains quite common in ancient.The stories regarding the drifters are vivid and detailed,which are involved in many countries that belonged to east asia seas and south sea of China.They are a special group which played an important role in Sino-Foreign Communications.Study the drifters’ story,we can find,it reflect the Sino-Foreign traffic conditions.Not only DengZhou,which plays a porminent role in Sino-Foreign relation,but also QingZhou and HaiZhou are the strongholds for oversea exchanges of the Chinese "Middle Ages".Thus the analysis of the drifters phenomenon can provide some light for studying Tang’s traffic situation with Silla,Japan,the Republic of Ezo,and the Ryukyu Islands in North Asia area as well as the South Sea.Study the regional characteristic of drifters,we can see that drifters and Tamna are closely linked.Tamna has an important traffic status,so drifters driftered to this place and drifters from this place are very common,from it we can tease out many links between China and Tamna.Drifters are not on a large scale and scattered distribution,it Seemingly plays a limited role in process of historical development,that,however,was not the case.From drifters’ activities and experiences we can know that,drifters have certain influence on political interaction of regimes and countries in historical period.During Song and Yuan Dynasties,there are several cases appeared that drifters hand over military intelligence in Northeast Asia,Although drifters drifted by accident,but they played an important role in signing of the alliance between Song and Jin over the sea and Mongol invasions of Japan.Thus it can be seen that drifters have a strong link with politics.Certainly,many drifters’ stories are so ridiculous,and a lot of buddhist legends are mixted with it.but unveiled its mysterious veil,we can find that it just a Means which Buddhism and Taoism Spread doctrine and attract followers,this also reflect the situation of Sino-Foreign religious transmission from the side.Thus the study of the Peculiar Practice of a businessman driftered to abroad by accident,we can further realize that Bai Juyi has certain influence in other countries in Tang dynasty.Though analysis the above-mentioned Sino-Foreign traffic conditions,political relationship and cultural exchange which reflected from drifters’ case,We can get a general view of the communication conditions of China and east asia sea and south sea in Tang and Song dynasty.
