| The Folk Song of Northern Shaanxi is the crystallization of spirit,thoughts and emotions of laboring people in Northern Shaanxi.The languages of Folk Songs of Northern Shaanxi are abundant in content but simple in diction and these folk songs are full of Chinese Northern people’s simplicity,exquisiteness,sonorousness and generosity.They have a wide range of influence not only in China,but also abroad.Folk Songs of Northern Shaanxi with their strong local characteristics have a global reputation especially in recent years.In this case,the English translation of Folk Songs of Northern Shaanxi is now becoming very necessary.Voice from the Northwest contains 105 English versions of Folk Songs of Northern Shaanxi.Although these translated versions of Folk Songs of Northern Shaanxi,which are the first step to make foreigners comprehend the vivid image and contents of Folk Songs of Northern Shaanxi,have not reached the level of singing performance in English,they are literary and semantic translation of artistic reproduction.Up to now,researchers have elaborated on English translation of Folk Songs of Northern Shaanxi from many perspectives.Considering their own characteristics and distinctively translated versions by Professor Wang Hongyin,the author of the thesis maintains that it may be more appropriate to analyze Professor Wang Hongyin’s English translation of Folk Songs of Northern Shaanxi from the angle of translation aesthetics.Based on the basic principles of aesthetics and distinct aesthetic standards,translation aesthetics is to reveal scientific and artistic characters of translation,in which aesthetic issues are analyzed,interpreted and solved in interlingual translation.Professor Liu Miqing’s translation aesthetics is the inheritance and development of Chinese traditional translation aesthetics and Western translation aesthetics,enriching the connotation of translation aesthetic research,encompassing translation subjectthe translator,translation object-the source text and target text,strategies of translation aesthetic reproduction and systems of translation aesthetics and other aesthetic elements on translation aesthetics.Due to peculiar aesthetic constituents of Folk Songs of Northern Shaanxi,the English translated versions of Folk Songs of Northern Shaanxi are selected and studied from the perspective of translation aesthetics proposed by Professor Liu Miqing to probe into whether translation aesthetics is represented in the translation practice and translated versions.In addition,the positive impact of translation aesthetics on English translation of Folk Songs of Northern Shaanxi is further explored.Influenced by translation aesthetics,Professor Wang Hongyin has frequently adopted translation methods of foreignization,domestication,imitation and translation compensation.In this instance formal aesthetics and non-formal aesthetics of Folk Songs of Northern Shaanxi are recreated and brought into full play.Consequently,it is feasible to elaborate and guide English translation of Folk Songs of Northern Shaanxi from the perspective of translation aesthetics.Moreover,this study provides further translation and the study of Folk Songs of Northern Shaanxi with a comparatively new perspective. |
