An Analysis On The Theory Of Territory Of Information

The Theory of Territory of Information studies the relationships between the content of language expression and the speaker or the hearer.The basic concepts and ideas of this theory were mentioned in the thesis of Kamio in 1979.Afterwards,this theory has been revised and improved many times,and ultimately come into being a book named Kamio in1990.Kamio·Takami 1998,Kamio 2001 and other related academic works improves the theory in the theoretical level,which promote the development of this theory.With the death of Kamio,Kamio 2002 becomes the last legacy.Since the advent of the Theory of Territory of Information,the Japanese linguists have analyzed the linguistic phenomena in Japanese by the aid of this theory or put forward their own theory on the basis of this theory.However,there are few new studies on the theory itself.Meanwhile,although some introductory books on cognitive linguistics mentioned the Theory of Territory of Information in China,there is little research which illustrates the language phenomenon with the help of this theory,especially on this theory itself.Therefore,the author hopes that this theory can be spread to China,which is the original intention of this thesis.This thesis adopts the theoretical research method,which consists of the following three parts.In the first chapter,the author analyzes the central content and theoretical changes of each period based on the three periods’ theoretical works(1990 edition,1998 edition and2002 edition)published by Kamio.Through the analysis of the conversational examples,the author investigates the core content of the theory,that is the distance between the speaker or the hearer and the content of the information.In the second chapter,the author enumerates various language phenomena and social phenomena to demonstrate the significance of Theory of Territory of Information in linguistic research and sociological research.Based on the conceptual center ofpsychological distance and distance measurement,the author discusses the predictability of the structure of the sentence.According to the classification of speech form in the Theory of Territory of Information,the author states the methodological significance of linguistic phenomenon research.In addition,the author illustrates the close relationship between human and society and the continuity of personal concepts from the social attributes of the concept.In the third chapter,by using the case analysis method,the author analyzes the application examples in linguistic research and sociological research based on the Theory of Territory of Information.Based on the function of ne in the Theory of Territory of Information,the author discusses the nature of ne that at the end of sentence,namely,“essential elements of ne” and “arbitrary elements of ne”.According to the form of speech in the Theory of Territory of Information,this thesis analyzes the form and situation of the sentence applicable to Chinese.Using the sociality of the theory,the symptoms of aphasia patients were analyzed.In summary,this thesis began with the three period’s transition of The Theory of Territory of Information,and it finished with the analysis of significance and application in linguistic research and sociological research.The Theory of Territory of Information throughout this thesis.The author hopes that this thesis enables people to have a better understanding on the significance of this theory in linguistic research and sociological research.At the same time,the Theory of Territory of Information will also become a theoretical support point in a series of research subjects related to linguistic phenomena and social phenomena.
