The quantity demanded of inter-disciplinary talents with professional knowledge in industries as well as English has grown rapidly in accordance with the proceedings of economic globalization,which promotes the expansion of ESP.in Vocational colleges,as the main force of cultivating ESP talents.It’s no doubt that College English teachers have to transform to ESP teachers.Therefore,it’s significant to show solicitude for the professional development of ESP teachers.This paper focuses on the professional development of ESP teachers in vocational colleges.The author sorts out some related proper theories by Documentary Research Method and questions as well as interviews 40 ESP teachers chosen from some Vocational College in Anhui Province to get the educational background,title structure,age structure,professional degrees of conformity,industry experience,scientific research and teaching situation,continuing education and self identity.At the same time,in order to know the teaching assessment of the teaching supervisors and students to ESP teachers,the author studies the teaching scores given by teaching supervisors and questions 400 students studying ESP courses.It’s proved that ESP teachers are facing many difficulties in professional development: Most ESP teachers become younger in average age and low in title and educational background;the industry experience and practical ability of ESP teachers should be enriched and improved;the scientific research field of ESP teachers is too limited;Insufficient propaganda dynamics of ESP leads to lack of attention to ESP teachers.In order to solve the problems,the author analyzes the research material carefully and puts forward some suggestions: to optimize the teachers’ constitution;to strengthen training related to ESP and enhance the consciousness of double-position teachers;to rich the industrial background of ESP teachers by school-enterprise cooperation;to develop school-based teaching materials and enlarge scientifical research fields of ESP teachers;to increase the propaganda dynamics of ESP and enhance importance of ESP.
