This article explores the development of sword in East and West and find the difference of decoration craft and pattern.the history of swords have been divided into two periods:the Bronze Age and to the Iron Age.Aslo,this article e numerate the develop of pattern,metal technology and decorative patterns.The br onze sword exists in the Xia Shang Zhou period,the warring state period,th e Qin dynasty and Han dynasty.The iron sword began to appear on a large scale in the Han Dynasty,through the period of the Three Kingdoms,and the Northe rn,Southern Dynasties,the Sui and Tang Dynasties,the song and Yuan Dynastie and the Ming and Qing Dynasties..After the Han Dynasty.This article introduc es the develop of swords in the West through the the medieval period to the modern and contemporary age.Mongolian’s knife represent the culture characteristi cs of nomadic people in the northern part of China.The living environment of nomadic people affected the evolution of the Mongolian’s knife.The Mongolian’s knife also used to slaughtered livestock.Yanling sword and Longquan sword a re distinctive sword,which can symbolize the spirit of magnanimity.The western swords are gorgeous and exquisite.With the development of the historical proc ess,the guard of the hand was designed on western sword,which is a big differ ence between Chinese sword.The difference of decoration between chinese and western sword is large.the decorative patterns is evolved by symbolic sign,whic h is not born for beauty.The West advocates humanitarianism and is good at u sing a realistic technique to picture a scene or make a animal image to be a bl azon.This article analysed the fundamental cause of the difference of the value between western and Chinese from socioeconomic,historical development and t he way of thinking.
