In real life, the individual in the selective processing of useful information as well as inhibition of irrelevant information processing,so as to ensure high efficiency of cognitive process.Attention control plays an important role in this process. So researchers research the relationship between attention and visual working memory from the aspect of attention cue.Researchers have found that, the cue present after memory items disappear in memory array phase, before probe item appear in probe phase can improve the performance of working memory, bring the retro-cue effect.Existing research mostly explore the retro-cue effect mechanism from the aspect of cued representation, such as protection hypotheses predict that the reallocation of attention resources within memory, resulting in the protection of the cued representation against decay and interference.Based on previous research,Whether the noncued representations is maintain in the memory or decay in the interval between retro-cue phase and the probe phase is unknown, therefore. This study explore the retro-cue effect mechanism from the aspect of noncued representation.Previous research research the noncued representations from the aspect of invalid cue.so this study selected college students as subjects, using invalid retro-cue and continuous report task to explore the retro-cue effect and the retro-cue effect mechanism. This research is divided into two parts, each part includes two experiments. The first part of this study we set valid retro-cue.invalid retro-cue and neutral retro-cue and four memory items within the limited visual working memory capacity to investigate how the existence of invalid clues influence the retro-cue effect and the retro-cue effect mechanism, the experiment 1 uses spatial retro-cue to explore the spatial retro-cue effect, the experiment 2 uses non-spatial retro-cue to explore the non-spatial retro-cue effect. The second part we set of this study we set valid retro-cue,invalid retro-cue and neutral retro-cue and two and six memory items beyond the limited visual working memory capacity to investigate the influence of different memory load on the retro-cue effect and the retro-cue effect mechanism, the experiment 3 uses spatial retro-cue to explore the influence of different memory load on the spatial retro-cue effect, the experiment 4 uses non-spatial retro-cue to explore the influence of different memory load on the non-spatial retro-cue effect. The results showed that:retro-cue effect is stable in visual working memory limited capacity,retro-cue plays an important part in a change in the status of the cued item, without any change for noncued items during retrieval, the noncued items still maintain in the memory, only slower than cued item in the retrieval order, prioritization hypotheses can better explain the retro-cue effect.Within the visual working memory limited capacity, the existence of invalid clues and the property of retro-cue(the spatial/non-spatial retro-cue)will not influence the retro-cue effect.Beyond the visual working memory limited capacity memory load and the property of retro-cue(the spatial/non-spatial retro-cue)can influence the retro-cue effect,,when the memory items is too little valid retro-cue speed up the reaction of the participants, invalid retro-cue mislead the subjects memory reduces the reaction time of subjects;when the memory items is too much, spatial retro-cue effect exists and conform to the prioritization hypotheses, the existence of invalid color retro-cue eliminated the color effect, invalid retro-cue mislead the subjects memory leading to the participants lower memory accuracy.
