An Experiment Report On The Effect Of The Student Interpreters’ Note-taking Language Characteristics In Consecutive Interpreting

Note-taking is an important part in consecutive interpreting,and its strategies are closely related to the quality of consecutive interpreting.This experiment report aims to explore the correlation between the language characteristics and the interpreting performance of the student interpreters.The main questions to be addressed and discussed in this experiment report are as follows:1)Which language do the Chinese student interpreters tend to use when taking notes during consecutive interpreting,source language or target language?2)In consecutive interpreting,is there correlation between different note-taking language and the student interpreters’ performance?In order to answer the questions above,the author designs two experiments carried out among 30 MTI students in Inner Mongolia University.In experiment 1,experiment samples are tried to find out.In experiment 2,the experiment subjects are asked to choose four kinds of ways to take notes.The first one is that all the notes are covered with target language.The second one is that the student interpreters should take notes mainly in target language and source language as auxiliary.The third one is that the student interpreters should take notes mainly in source language and target language as auxiliary.The fourth one is that the student interpreters,notes are all covered with source language.According to the data collected from the experiment,this report draws a conclusion that there is no significant correlation between characteristics of the note-taking language and the interpreting performance of student interpreters.The limitation of this experiment is that the sample is too small.In the future research,the experiment sample can be increased or the professional interpreters can be added to perform the relevant experiment report.
