With the progress of the times,Chinese medicine development is increasingly demands for practitioners with higher-level medical and pharmaceutical English.For this,Chinese medicine universities have set up corresponding medical and pharmaceutical English courses,but the teaching effect is not satisfactory.So,it is urgent to improve the teaching effect of medical and pharmaceutical English,stimulate the students’ learning motivation and improve the personnel quality of medical and pharmaceutical English talents of Chinese medicine universities.Therefore,on the basis of demotivation theory,taking Hu Weixing and Cai Jinting’s,Liu Honggang and Ying Bin’s English learning demotivation models,and combining with the relevant studies on medical and pharmaceutical English of Chinese medicine universities,this study aimed to explore the demotivation condition and influencing factors of students in learning medical and pharmaceutical English at Chinese medicine universities,which can provide reference for teaching reform of medical and pharmaceutical English in Chinese medicine universities.Medical and pharmaceutical English classes in spring semester,2017 of a certain south Chinese medicine university were observed,and students were surveyed with questionnaires and interviews.The results found that demotivation in medical and pharmaceutical learning was common among students of Chinese medicine universities,who were mainly low and passive in class participation,lacked learning initiative both in and outside the classroom.A factor analysis suggested eight medical and pharmaceutical English learning demotivation factors,including teacher factor,individual emotion,learning goals,school management,peer influence,teaching equipment,interest and teaching materials.A comprehensive analysis revealed that the most influential factors leading students’ demotivation in learning medical and pharmaceutical English at Chinese medicine universities were the internal factors such as learning goals,which were in turn regulated by external factors such as teacher factor,school management and teaching materials.Based on the results above,to stimulate students’ learning motivation in medical and pharmaceutical English of Chinese medicine universities,we should start with defining learning objectives,cultivating students’learning interest,improving teaching staff’s comprehensive abilities and teaching materials,arranging curriculum rationally,perfecting evaluation system,strengthening teaching equipments and developing new technologies and new methods.
