Reflection refers to the fact that individuals critically analyze their problems through thinking of their behavior.In the practice of teaching,reflection means that teachers critically analyze their teaching behavior to find out teaching problems and to improve their teaching.Young college teachers are cornerstone of the whole college teacher groups.Therefore,it is important to study young college teachers' reflective competence in order to improve their teaching.The study attempts to identify three questions:(1)What aspects of reflection do young college English teachers reflect?(2)What is the relationship between reflective competence and professional development for young college English teachers?(3)What are the highs and lows for young college English teachers in terms of reflection?With the aid of quantitative and qualitative research methods,the study attempts to investigate the young college English teachers' reflection on teaching and the relationship between their reflection and professionalism.The study selects 50 participants from three departments at Shenyang Normal University: Department of Foreign Languages,School of Foreign Languages and College of International Business.Questionnaires are distributed to the 50 participants.5 out of 50 participants are observed and interviewed.The period of classroom observation lasts 15 weeks.Questionnaire,classroom observation and interview are adapted to study the three questions.The data of the questionnaire is analyzed by SPSS 16.0.The results are as follows:(1)In the seven aspects of reflection in the questionnaire(the practical aspect,the moral aspect,the classroom management aspect,the cognitive aspect,the affective aspect,the meta-cognitive aspect and critical aspect),the reflection of classroom management takes the largest proportion among the 50 participants.(2)Reflection improves young college English teachers' professional development through research and studies.(3)Reflection can not only improve young college English teachers' teaching,but also their professional development.The results indicate that reflection promotes teachers' development,especially in their professional development.At the end of the study,the author provides some implications of the study,the limitations of the study and the suggestions for future study.
