Against the backdrop of the globalization of higher education,the importance of international exchanges and cooperation in colleges and universities become increasingly prominent with frequent foreign affairs activities.However,there are still many problems and shortcomings existing in the translation of foreign affairs in domestic institutions of higher learning,which,to a certain extent,has an overall effect on the foreign affairs activities.Based on the author’s translation practice in a Chinese university,this report focuses translation of foreign affairs in universities other than interpretation,which involves translation of letters of intent of international cooperation,agreements,memorandums,correspondence,contracts of hiring foreign experts,publicity materials and rules and regulations for foreign teachers and foreign students drafted by the Foreign Affairs Office.This report makes an introduction to the background,significance and structure of the translation project,analyzes the present situation of foreign affairs translation in colleges and universities,and reviews the translation practice from the aspects of pre-translation preparation,translation process as well as post-translation summary.The report points out that translation of foreign affairs should be guided by Functional Equivalence Theory and combines domestication and foreignization strategies so as to facilitate the communication between Chinese and foreign colleges and universities,realize the reciprocal exchange and improve the English translation quality of foreign affairs in colleges and universities.
