A Survey On Changes And The Current Situation Of Xi'an Dongcang Drum Music Society In More Than 60 Years

Xi'an Drum Music is a kind of traditional Chinese wind and percussion instrumental music.It is popular in Xian's urban and rural areas as well as the areas along the piedmont of the Zhongnan Mountain.At present,it has been selected into the list of the “representative of human oral and intangible cultural heritage" of UNESCO.Currently,there are only six century-old Drum Music Societies in Xi'an.Dongcang Drug Music Society is one of them researched in this paper.Its history dates back to the Ming and Qing dynasties.It was a scarce government-run official drum music society at that period of time.Due to its long history of the establishment of the society,the author's selected subject will be combed by means of following the historical vicissitude of the music society.Relying on the investigation report of The Drum Music Club and the Bronze Club of Shaanxi Province written by Mr.Yang Yingliu in 1954,this thesis is divided into three chapters to expound.The first chapter starts with the living environment and the background of the music society,narrating the living condition of the music society under the general background.Dongcang Drum Music Society appeared in the state of the music society union at that time without recording its music form separately.In this case,the second chapter will start with the music noumenon to conduct a comprehensive arrangement and analysis on Dongcang Drum Music Society from many aspects respectively,including music score,musical instrument,music composition,and music tune with the aim to analyze the individuality from the generality.The third chapter will focus on the transformation of Dongcang Drum Music Society.It is the only existing old music society with successful commercial transformation among all music societies in Xi'an.Therefore,in the third chapter,the author will mainly analyze the changes of this music society in the aspects of inheritance,personnel structure,and operation state after its transformation from folk to corporate operation.The transformation from folk "self-music society" to "cooperation with enterprises" is a rare situation of folk music societies.This thesis will focus on the systematic excavation from many aspects,including the historical causes promoting Dongcang Drum Music Society to enter Tang Paradise,the self-saving behavior of folk music society in the early stage of transformation,and the development state after its access into Tang Paradise.It makes an effort to demonstrate the changes of the survival& development,the inheritance of music books,and the personnel turnover of the musicclub in detail during the past 60 years.It is also hoped that this thesis can expand the understanding as well as the research of the academic field on Dongcang Drug Music Society.Meanwhile,as for the project of The Digital Collection(Sixty Year's Revisit)Plan of Xi'an Drum Music launched by Mr.Qiao Jianzhong in 2014,the author hope that it can reserve more true music forms related to the Dongcang Drum Club as well as the development situation of the Music Clubs.
