A Report On C-E Translation Of The Wind Through The Hall

Children’s literary works are specially created and suitable for children.In the process of creation,the writers will take the psychological characteristics,the degree of acceptance,and the degree of emotional development of the children into account.Therefore,the translator translated The Wind through the Hall from Mr.Cao Wenxuan under the guidance of Skopos theory.The views aim to produce a child-centred translation.Based on this,the author selected the first four chapters of The Wind through the Hall to translate.The thesis mainly carried on the case analysis on words,phrases,and sentences translation.Words and phrases mainly include proper nouns(title of this book and personal name),onomatopoeia,four character phrases and a single word with several meanings.Sentences are mainly consisted of Chinese sentences with passive labels and zero-subject sentences.The translation of the title mainly adopted literal translation depending on the title,rather than according to the story of this book.This translation method aims to preserve the beauty of its imagery.Speaking of personal names,as we all know,they are not just the names,which contain certain referential meanings.So annotated transliteration was applied.The corresponding English onomatopoeia was found when translating the Chinese onomatopoeia,and the gerund of all words were adopted,which can make the expressions interesting.The referential meaning should be taken into consideration primarily as translating the four-character phrases,and the adverbs were used at the end of the corresponding phrases to avoid some strange words for the young readers.Polysemy is quite common in both Chinese and English,so the best way to translate them accurately is to analyze their real meanings-the exact referents.Generally,the sentences with the passive labels can be translated into the corresponding English passive sentences.Zero-subject sentence is relatively common in Chinese,but rare in English.The subject should be added to make it accord with the habit of English expressions.So,the audience’s ability to appreciate and the ability of understanding should befully considered.More attention should be paid to the children,eliminating language barriers and overcoming cultural differences.
