Studying On Cao Pi’s And Cao Zhi’s Views Of Women

Cao Pi and Cao Zhi,one is the leader of the group of the Yexia literatis,the other is known as the hero of Jian an,they both became the core characters of Jian an literature because of their outstanding literature accomplishment and their special political status.Among their works handed down from the antient times,there are a lot of works whose themes are related to women,which reflected the views of the women of themselves’ and of that time.Cao Pi’s and Cao Zhi’s views of female,which is the awareness of the nature of female’s existance,state,and value,got a very good reflection in these works.The image of women in Cao Pi’s works are relatively dimple,basically are the women in unfortunate marriages,occasionally there are several beauties in it.While Cao Pi,as a important ruler of the male,he expressed his sympathy for these unfortunate women.In Han Dynasty the status of female is decreased gradually,therefore it is relatively a kind of progress that they have such views toward female.However,Cao Pi didn’t realize the individual value of the female,being a ruler in the patriarchal societsy,he supported the female misfortune as well.Female images in the works of Cao Zhi are more full,he expressed not only his deeply sympathy for the tragic fate of the women,but also awared the root of their unhappyness is the unfair marriage regulation.In addition,those demon and idle beauties in Cao Zhi’s works reflected his recognition of the female externally and appearantly,which affirmed the value of the female’s existance to some extent.Therefore,when comparing with Cao Pi,Cao Zhi’s view towards the female had moved to a farther degree.Comparing with the coservative views of the female in the Eastern Han Dynasty,Cao Pi’s and Cao Zhi’s views of the female have some progresses,they have some similarities and differences on the awareness of the nature of the female.This was caused by the special historical environment of the late Han dynasty,their identifications and the differences of their thoughts and characteristic.Studying Cao Pi’s and Cao Zhi’s views of the female,and analysing the formation and the differences of their views toward the female can help us a lot when trying to understand their literary thoughts,and also helpful to study the reasons for the prosperity of female theme works in the period of Jian an.
