The Double Writing Of Loving Mother And The Madonna | | Posted on:2019-07-29 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:L C Wen | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2335330569488455 | Subject:Chinese Language and Literature | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | Yan Geling,an overseas Chinese literature writer,had caught the attention of Chinese contemporary literary world before she immigrated to the United States.The experience of immigrants allowed her to write with a broader,more integrated cultural perspective and writing perspective.The inheritance of Chinese traditional culture and the unique insights for western culture are reflected in her works.A Girl Called Xiaoyu and A Prostitute Called Fusang are two novels of the early stage of her immigration,then she wrote the Thirteen Girls in Jinling,The Ninth Widow and The Aunt Called Duohe which with a strong native style.She created a series of female images with obvious features of motherhood.These images are touched but we have to reflect on their authenticity.In addition to the epilogue,this article is divided into four chapters:The first chapter is the introduction part,through the overview of Yan Geling’s life and creative process,and several important works before and after going abroad,we can explore the differences between Yan Geling and writers of the same type in the writing of motherhood from her perspective of psychological development and comparison with other writers,and revealing the author’s unique personal writing style.Through the research on the status of research on Yan Geling’s maternal writing at home and abroad,this paper presents a unique research perspective that focus on the double themes of "Mother" and "Notre Dame",then combine the ideas in this paper and explain the concept of related terms such as " Motherhood" and " Madonna ".The second chapter focuses on Yan Geling’s two works in the early stages of immigration,A Girl Called Xiaoyu and A Prostitute Called Fusang,we analysis the characteristics of the motherhood of the two stray maidens and the actual emotional misplacement and disorientation behind this kindness.Then we’ll reveal the deep source of oriental culture behind the theme of “love” such as Confucianism and Buddhist culture.The third chapter carefully analyzes the two masterpieces of Yan Geling after returning to purely localized writing: The Ninth Widow and The Aunt Called Duohe,then we reveal the transcendence of the characteristics of the Madonna in the three women who laugh and live and explore the sources of western culture behind the theme of “Madonna” such as Christian culture.The fourth chapter discusses the deep cultural connotation behind the collision of the two themes of “Mother” and “Madonna”,reveal the influence of the traditional Chinese Confucian culture represented by these two themes and the influence of Western Christian culture on the author,explore the author’s choice of these two cultures and themes in shaping female images and summed up its excellence and inadequacies in the integration of the two cultures;then start with the display aspects of the work,revealing the predicament of the author in maternal writing and some imperfections in the modernity and classicality of female images. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Yan Geling, Maternal writing, Cross-culture, Motherhood, Madonna | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
