Urban waterlogging and water shortage phenomenon increasingly and seriously coexist. To address these issues, the research and development of rainwater harvesting(RWH)is required in the 13 th Five-year Plan of National Municipal Infrastructure Construction.Unfortunately, this field in China still remains blank, while there are abundant researches abroad. In view of this, the author translates twelve authoritative latest international academic literature of this field, hoping to help professionals broaden their visions, learn foreign advanced technologies, ideas, designs, and experience.Based on these twelve academic papers downloaded from ELSEVIER ScienceDirect(SD),this report describes the challenges and corresponding methods during translating process in detail. In this report, the features of translation materials are analyzed from lexical, syntactic and textual aspects.Because the content is about urban water supply and drainage,so these papers also embody the features of English for Science and Technology(EST).The author adopts Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory to analyse translation in lexical and syntactical levels, and summarizes methods and experiences of this translation project. The author has applied functional equivalence theory to this translation project, especially the translation of terms and long sentences in EST,which achieves good effect. Therefore, this report, combining the author’s own translation practice, summarizes the application of functional equivalence theory. The author has gained experiences and inspiration through this practice, and enhanced translation ability.
