This translation report is based on the sixth chapter of David Mamet: A Life in the Theatre written by biographer Ira·Nadel.The biography is divided into nine chapters describing the growth and personal story of the famous playwright David mamet.Biography text is a kind of information-transfer text,in which the descriptive statements account for a large proportion.Those sentences in the book can be succinct but cover a large amount of information,emerged a large number of nominalization structure,this article will use case study method to analyse the translation strategies of nominalization.Nominalization is the process of converting a noun or underlying clause into a noun phrase by itself.The difficult part of this translation practice is how to deal with the nominalization structure while maintaining the style of biography,and on the other hand,how to deal with different types of nominalization structure.For the above problems,the author will divide nominalization structure into lexical and sentential nominalization and adopt the following different translation methods : literal translation、reverse translation、subject-predicate structure、verb-object construction、free translation、omission and division translation.At present,there are many dissertations on nominalization in China,but there is no treatise of it.It is hoped that this practice report can make a contribution to the translation of nominalized structures.
