Study On The Activities Of The Peace Corps In Samoa

There is a deep historical origin between The United States and Samoa.In the year of1939,the United States and Samoa had a first contact.Because of history reasons,Samoan government trusted the United States deeply.When Samoa faced a variety of economic and social problems after independence,and faced hurricane in 1967,the Government of Samoa decided to invite the United States Peace Corps to Samoa to assist them in social development and environmental improvement.The aim of the Peace Corps is to assist in developmenting and practicing.The Peace Corps and the Government of Samoa assesed the current state of society and therefore to revise development projects.The Peace Corps activities in Samoa included agricultural and rural development,business and public administration,education,health,urban development and so on.Since the Peace Corps entered Samoa in 1967,the mainly works of the Peace Corps has been changing constantly.At the beginning,the Peace Corps took responsibility of English education,and mathematics and science education in middle school has always been the important task.Volunteers were arranged to train teachers,while some were engaged in full-time teacher training and curriculum development.In the 1980 s,the key projects gradually changed from English,mathematics and science education to the development of agriculture and forestry items and career teaching.In the 1990 s,the Peace Corps has shifted to small-scale business development,with volunteers working with the Samoa Development Bank,who will act as extension advisers to assist Samoa in the development of small businesses.Each period was accompanied by a number of development in agriculture and rural development,business and public administration,education,health,urban development and public works,and etc.Evert urgent projects were set up based on the development and needs of Samoan society.In the year of 2014,the General Secretary Xi Jinping visited the Pacific island countries and tried to promote the integration of 21 th century Maritime Silk Road in Asia-Pacific area.The Ministry of Education of my country has launched the Education Assistance Project,which is similar to some of the Peace Corps activities in Samoa,and the study of Peace Corps activities in Samoa enlightened our new student education project.
