The traditional ideological and political education has been undergoing great changes in the background of New Media Era, including both challenges and opportunities, especially for the less-mature college students. The mobile application-Wechat has a great influence since it was introduced to Chinese market in 2011. To the moment, universities have gradually realized the importance of using Wechat in the ideological and political education area, yet they have not put up with a decent functioning system of how to make the best of Wechat. Thus, it deserves some attention of how to use the app more efficiently. This thesis does some research on how the ideological and political education in current universities are faced with challenges and opportunities before generally introducing the New Media background by analyzing its major features, types and trends.
