New Media And Empowerment:Research On Servival Condition Of The Homosexual

For more than a century,as the enlarged and further study of different disciplines,homosexual has been "non-criminal offenses" in the legal aspect and "non-pathelogical behaviors" in medicine."Gay" people's rights consciousness has been awaked,the influnce of related movement is getting stronger,the visibility in society have improved as well,and homosexual isn't regarded as "criminal offenses" and "pathelogical behaviors"gradually.However,around the world,public's attitudes toward homosexual,from dosdain to understanding and acception,is ongoing.Nowdays,the rapid development and widespread application of information dissemination and media technology complicate the media ecological environment and the communication authority.Because of the new media technology,homosexual is no longer the "object" but"subject" in the communication process.They express themselves to present the picture of community's living state.The new-media provides multi-perspectives for public on understanding homosexual,and possibility for homosexual on pursuing equal rights,boosting the process of gender equality in China.But popular fujoshi culture,the pursuit of audience attention resource and economic interests are likely to make sexual minority discourse turn to entertainment and novelty,thus curing public stereotypes to homosexual.Beyond that,the peple and words of anti-homosexual based on religion,medicine and traditional culture are expanding their influnce through now-media technology.Therefore,I prefer to take new-media technology as an important carrier for homosexual community's internal communication,self-support and interaction with public during the process of empowerment,and avoid falling into the blind optimism and utopianism about new-media technology.This paper has taken new media and empowerment as research perspective and picked homosexual in Xi 'an as the research object.The aim is to step into the homosexual's daily life,using the methods of interviews and participatory observation,as well as the situated approach to study the new media practice based on self-requirement,which is involved with homosexuality identity social interaction,community support and service,family and public education and social advocacy and so on intuitively and comprehensively.The research help learning about how homosexual incorporate the new media into their daily lives and finding the possibility for homosexual pursuing rights and promoting the process of gender equality through new-media,as well as communication dilemma homosexual faced with during the process.
