English grammar is the key point and difficulty point of high school instruction and learning.It is difficult for both teachers and students.The grammar proficiency influences the overall language learning directly,reflecting on the senior high school entrance examination.It is crucial to master the method and strategy of grammar learning to improve language proficiency.On the other hand,grammar learning belief influences the learning behaviors and strategy using.Therefore,the correlation study on English grammar learning belief,strategy and language proficiency is very significant and practical for English instruction.Based on the questionnaires of Andrew(six dimensions)and Oxford(four dimensions),the correlation study was investigated the belief of Chinese high school students about learning English grammar and their use of grammar learning strategies in Lin Fen No.1 Experimental high school.It also aims to investigate the relationship between students' English language grammar learning beliefs and their strategy use among the high school students.In particular,the study focuses on research questions as follows:(1)What are the high school students' beliefs about English grammar learning?(2)What are the grammar learning strategies used by the high school students?(3)What is the relationship among learners' beliefs about English grammar learning,their use of grammar learning strategy and grammar proficiency?(4)What is the relationship among learners' beliefs about English grammar learning,their use of grammar learning strategy and whole English proficiency?The results of two tests and two questionnaires have been treated from descriptive statistics,Pearson correlation analysis and independent sample t-test between high proficiency students and low proficiency students,by which the characteristics of language grammar learning and pedagogical implication were summarized.Major findings of the research are as follows:Firstly,high proficiency students and low proficiency students hold some significantly different beliefs of grammar learning which are reflected on the daily learning behaviors.Theirbeliefs are complicated and full of paradox.The gender could influence some grammar learning belief.Secondly,the strategies are used in the mid-to-high level.The descending order of grammar strategy using is Affective strategies > Social strategies > Cognitive strategies >Metacognitive strategies.Except Metacognitive strategies,rest three strategy categories have correlation with grammar proficiency.There is difference between high proficiency students and low proficiency students in grammar learning strategy.The gender could influence some grammar learning strategy.Thirdly,the main correlation shows the grammar learning strategy has strong correlation with grammar and language proficiency.Some dimensions and items of grammar learning belief have correlation with strategy and proficiency.Although not having direct relationship with the language proficiency,these beliefs have correlation with some strategy.They can improve each other and have unimaginable influence on proficiency finally.Instruct the efficient strategy to learn grammar in following ways:(1)Helping students avoid the fear of mistakes to use grammar to write and speak;(2)Instructing an objective view on grammar;(3)Instructing an objective view on grammar strategy;(4)Helping students become more autonomous in grammar learning and language learning;(5)Making good use of available learning resources and activities.
