Modern tennis courts can be generally divided into three categories:hard court, grass court and red clay court. In order to adapt to different types of courts, the athletes need to be equipped with different levels of competitive competence and techniques and tactics.Matches of the past year are overwhelmingly on hard court. Therefore,a study on the techniques and tactics adopted in hard court matches is indispensable. The current top tennis players in the world have excellent control of spin and the accuracy of placement at first service. The replacement of the service techniques and tactics at the service game exerts great impact on the result of the match. To focus on the present,in order to help Chinese male tennis players step out of Asia and rank top in the world, this study takes Zhang Ze and the other four top Asian tennis male players:Kei Nishikori,Ye-Hsun Lu,Kukushkin Mikhail and Istomin Denis as research subjects, trying to find out the difference and problems, through comparison,in their service techniques and tactics in hard court matches during recent years. It is also hoped that this study could serve as a reference basis as to promote the service techniques and tactics of Chinese male tennis players including Zhang. The findings are as follows:(1)Zhang performs better than the other four top Asian tennis players(Kei Nishikori,Ye-Hsun Lu,Kukushkin Mikhail and Istomin Denis)in terms of the first service point average. But he still lags behind in terms of first service point and manifests instability in performance which keeps going down in last three years.(2)The top Asian male tennis players keep better stability in second service point average, among whom the two players Kei Nishikori and Ye-Hsun Lu continue to improve their scores. In contrast,Zhang seems to sway his second service point average a lot.(3)The top Asian male tennis players are comparatively more stable in the success rate of the break points.Kei Nishikori is even able to keep it on an improving basis. However,Zhang manifests obvious inferiority in maintaining the success rate of the break points.(4)The first service placements of the top Asian tennis players are mostly in the outer and inner angle.Very few of the players choose center(body hit)service while Zhang manifests a tendency to the inner angle service.(5)Istomin Denis will primarily choose centre(body hit)service at the second service while Zhang and the other three top Asian players tend to attack the opponent's backhand.(6)The top Asian tennis players are prone to attack the empty space of the opponents after the outer angle service.Zhang will make the same move after the outer angle serve at the right court but primarily choose to attack the center line at the left court.(7)Kei Nishikori and the other three top Asian tennis players will primarily choose to attack the backhand, then the forehand and finally the center line after inner angle and center service.Zhang is more likely to attack the centre line.(8)Zhang and the top Asian tennis players will primarily use forehand drive to attack the backhand of the opponents when dealing with the forehand stroke. In case of backhand stroke, all the five players will firstly resort to backhand drive, but comparatively, the four top Asian tennis players will pay more attention to the suppression of the opponents' backhand.
