It is all known that second language acquisition is a complex process,so that learners often make various errors during their language learning. As one of the most important parts in second language learning, grammar has received great attention.Non-finite verbs are one of the most important and difficult points in senior high school grammar teaching and learning. But a number of students cannot understand and use them accurately, due to the various forms, abstract content, and lack of corresponding inflectional change of verbs form in Chinese language. This also makes a big trouble in English grammar teaching and learning. This thesis is based on second language theories--contrastive analysis, errors analysis and interlanguage. And 108 students and 3 teachers of Grade 2 in senior high school from Yantai No.3 Middle School are chosen as participants. And the main research instruments include test papers, questionnaires and interviews.According to these research methods, the study makes a deep investigation on the errors types,as well as the causes, related in non-finite verbs acquisition by senior high school students. There are three research questions: What is the errors frequency related to the five types(infinitive, gerund, present participle, past participle and the nominative absolute)of non-finite verbs? What are the common errors that students often make when they use non-finite verbs? What are the possible factors leading to students' errors about the non-finite verbs,as well as the corresponding countermeasures? In this study, some major findings are made: In the process of non-finite verbs study for senior high students, the error frequency of five types of non-finite verbs can rank from top to bottom: Infinitive> Present participle> Past participle> Absolute structure> Gerund. The common errors that students often make can be divided into four types: a.incorrect choice of the fundamental form in non-finite verbs.b.The misapplication of tense and voice changes.c.Avoidance of using non-finite verbs.d.Wrong writing form of verbs. These kinds of errors are possibly influenced by some factors.a.The confusion made by the complex forms of non-finite verbs.b.Students lack knowledge of their real self-learning situation.c.Students' context awareness is inadequate.d.Students' subjunctive factors.According to the above conclusion, some constructive suggestions about non-finite verbs' study are provided for both teachers and students at the end of this thesis. On the one hand, teachers should try to create good language environment for students;strengthen students' application of non-finite verbs. And use more scientific method to guide the students in English learning. On the other hand, students should treat errors with positive attitude, and correct errors in time. And having a good learning habit and strategy is also important for students study.
