Cold Rolling forming technology is a kind of advanced production technology for high performance axis parts such as of screw thread and multiple spline. Its chipless forming characteristic not only significantly improves productivity, but also greatly improves the forming texture and mechanical properties of parts, which cannot be achieved by the traditional machining of metal technology. Cold rolling machine tool is the special equipment of the forming technique and it makes the advanced technology be applied in practice. From the perspective of the current cold rolling machine tool in China, The technical and functional level has been significantly improved through the constant researches and explorations, but its appearance modeling has greater gaps, compared with that of international well-known products. In the paper, taking the cold rolling forming equipment Z28 k numerical control(NC) cold rolling machine tool jointly developed by the R&D team led by Professor Li Yongtang of Taiyuan University of Science and Technology and Qingdao Shenjian Machinery Factor as the research object, the machine tool modeling is studied on the basis of the structure and functions. It has great significance to promote the international competitive position of China’s cold rolling equipment.In the paper, firstly, the structure of Z28 k NC cold rolling machine tool is analyzed; on the basis, its rack is remolded; then, modeling design is conducted on its external protection; finally, manufacturability evaluation is carried out on the modeling scheme. Force analysis is mainly conducted on the key component– rack section; 3D model of rack is established by using SOLIDWORKS software; the WORKBENCH software is imported to conduct the statics analysis and dynamic analysis; the rack force characteristics in working process are summed up; the rack appearance is remolded; SOLIDWORKS software is used to establish three-dimensional models of rack after remolding; WORKBENCH software is applied to carry out static and dynamic analysis on the modified machine rack structure; the rationality and feasibility of the remolding is proved. Next, by combining design aesthetics and man-machine engineering principles, three sets of rack external protection molding schemes that not only meet the structure and functional characteristics of machine tool but also accord with the aesthetic requirements and man-machine requirements are put forward and explained. Finally, by contacting product manufacturability principle, multi-level and multi-attribute evaluation model is established by combining machine tool modeling and manufacturability; the analytic hierarchy process is used to evaluate design scheme of Z28 k cold rolling machine tool; the scheme evaluation results are offered.The above research establishes a link between the structure, function and appearance of Z28 k NC cold rolling machine tool and lays the foundation for the modeling design research of the related equipment in the future.
