Trend Research On Furniture Design For The Elderly

China has entered the aging society,thus the psychology and behavior of the elderly who live in the space environment should be valued to create the ideal living space for the elderly,which is particularly critical for the life quality of the elderly.As a kind of daily necessity,furniture for elderly has become an important part to ensure the life quality of the elderly and the construction of living environment.At present,elderly furniture industry in China has just started;hence,there exists many problems in design,production,and marketing.Also,some aspects such as the geographical concept,product characteristics as well as sustainable development are ignored prominently.Through analyzing the behavior,physiology and psychological characteristics of the elderly in basic living environment,this paper summarizes the requirements,possession and use of the furniture demanded by the elderly,and reflects the present situation of the furniture design of the elderly in China.From the perspectives of design cognition,industry competition,substitute and design quality,the development orientation of the furniture design for elderly people is analyzed and the trend of the furniture design of the elderly is explored.Under the principle of safety,function,intelligence,versatility and adaptability,this paper elaborately examines the furniture design for the aged and puts forward the strategy of designing furniture for the elderly so as to strengthen the intelligent,humanized,personalized,modular and emotional furniture design and serve the development of elderly furniture industry domestically by virtue of probing into the current theoretical research and practice of the furniture for the elderly in China.
