Preparation And Properties Of Polysaccharide Composite Fibers

This paper mainly studiedcalcium alginate/chitosan composite fiber and viscose/chitosan composite fiber which coated calcium alginate or viscose fiber with natural antibacterial polysaccharide chitosan.On the one hand,calcium alginate fiber and viscose fiber can be of good natural antibacterial properties;on the other hand,the polysaccharide composite fibers which coated with chitosan are of lower cost as the price of chitosan fiber is expensive nowadays.Calcium alginate/chitosan composite fiber was prepared by two methods.With one method of adding chitosan in the bathto prepare chitosan,calcium alginate/chitosan composite fiber was prepared.Effects of the amount of calcium alginate fiber,the concentration of chitosan and pH value in the bath on moisture absorption,moisture retention and fiber strengthwere tested and analyzed.Calcium alginate/chitosan composite fiber was characterized by SEM and FTIR,and the antibacterial property of fiber was tested.Results showed that when the concentration of CS was 0.5g/L,pH=7,the amount of calcium alginate fiber was 1.2g.The fiber had excellent moisture absorption and moisture retention.With the other method of adding chitosan solution in the coagulation bath of wet spinning,calcium alginate/chitosan composite fiber was prepared as well.Effects of the spinning temperature,concentration of sodium on alginate 4%,coagulation bath concentration 4%,CS concentration 0.5g/ L,pH=7,pump speed 240r/min,drawing speed 60r/min on the moisture absorption and fiber strength were tested.Calcium alginate/chitosan composite fiber was characterized by SEM and FTIR,and the antibacterial property of the fiber was tested.Results showed that the composite fiber also had good moisture absorption and moisture retention properties.Viscose/chitosan composite fiber was prepared by adding chitosan in the finishing bath.Effects of the amount of viscose fiber,the concentration of chitosan and pH value in the bath on moisture absorption,moisture retention and strength were tested and analyzed.Viscose/chitosan composite fiber was characterized by SEM and FTIR,and the antibacterial property was tested.Results showed that when the concentration of CS was 0.6g/L,pH=7,viscose content was 1.2g,viscose /chitosan composite fiber had fairly excellent moisture absorption and moisture retention.
