Professor Lu Renhe's Experience In Treating Diabetes Medication Based On Medical Analysis

Objective:To sum up the experience and rules of diagnosis and treatment of Professor LV Renhe for diabetes through the statistical analysis on the factors of TCM syndrome differentiation of diabetes in cases treated by Professor LV.In order to inherit and carry forward the academic thought of famous TCM doctors.Method:The medical records of 46 diabetic cases(115 visits)treated by Professor LV Renhe were collected during June 2014 and June 2016,which included patient’s general information,type of diabetes,course the disease and treatment,TCM four examinations,laboratory examination,treatment and follow up condition.The information collected was input into Microsoft Office Excel 2007 to build up patient record data base,then commence data mining and data analysis by Excel 2007 and SPSS 19.0.Results:After analyzing 46 cases,22 cases belong to Xiaoke stage,and 24 cases belong to Xiaodan stage.The affecting organs in Xiaoke stage were stomach,kidney and large intestine;whereas in Xiaodan stage,kidney,spleen and stomach were affected.The top three symptoms in Xiaoke stage were dry mouth(67.65%),lethargy(47.06%)and lumbar region muscle soreness(47.06%);the most commonly seen tongue-pulse in this stage were red tongue,thin-yellow tongue coating and deep pulse.The top three symptoms in Xiaodan stage were lethargy(81.48%),poor sleep(35.65%)and cold extremities(35.65%);the most commonly seen tongue-pulse in this stage were pale-red tongue with tooth mark,white greasy tongue coating and deep pulse.The statistics of syndromes showed that the syndrome of liver stagnation transfer into fire came first in Xiaoke stage,follow by Qi-blood stagnation syndrome and spleen beset by damp-heat syndrome.In Xiaodan stage,patients suffered mostly from Qi-Yin deficiency syndrome,follow by blood stagnation blocking collateral syndrome,and wasting in meridian syndrome.The presence of "stagnation "can be seen in both stage.The top 10 herbs used in Xiaoke stage by Professor Lv:Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae,Polyporus,Herba Artemisiae Scopariae,Cortex Moutan,Radix Paeoniae Rubra,Rhizoma Cptidis,Euonymus alatus,Rhizoma Atractylodis,Poria,and Radix Puerariae Lobatae.The top 10 herbs used in Xiaodan stage:Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae,Radix Paeoniae Rubra,Radix Astragali,Cortex Moutan,Pseudostellaria heterophylla,Gardenia jasminoides Ellis,Angelica sinensis,Lycium,Citrus medica L and Radix Glycyrrhizae.Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae(DanShen)was the most frequently used herbs in the treatment of both stages.Conclusion:Professor Lv Renhe focusing on " treating by stage" in the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes;he concluded that patients in Xiaoke stage mainly manifested symptoms like that of liver stagnation transfer into fire syndrome or spleen-stomach damp heat syndrome,thus the herb used in the prescription would leaning towards clearing heat and removing water retention.During Xiaodan stage,patients manifested with symptoms alike Qi-Yin deficiency and blood stagnation in collaterals,therefore the choice of herb leaning toward tonify Qi and moving blood.Professor Lv concluded the key word in diabetes treatment should be "stagnation",thus his preference in using herbs with function of nourishing blood and removing meridian obstruction.
