The Influence Of Speech Emotion Perception On The Authenticity Judgment Of Social Life Events

Emotional cues existed in speech; people can infer speaker’s emotions according to tones, speed, and intensity etc, which is useful for humans to comprehend others and feel their inner thoughts or intentions. In most researches on speech emotion perception, researchers lay a lot of stress on emotional category and intensity, the influence on judgment ignored. Speech as a carrier of speech emotion expression is an essential cue when people inferring speaker’s emotion and contacting with others in social interaction. To explore influence of speech emotion perception on judgment of truth of the expression of social and life events, two experiments were conducted.In Experiment1, we used hot spots of society as materials which contain four types, they were:happiness, anger, sadness and neutral. The participants consisted of116university students (41boys and75girls). They judged the truth of40sentences of a woman in different prosody. Results indicated that the scores of sadness were higher than happiness and anger not only in categories perception, but also in intensity perception. In addition, there were significant differences in gender of participants in category perception. The anger and neutral speech were judged to be the most authentic, followed by sadness, the worst was happiness.In Experiment2, we used life events as materials which also contain four emotion types, they were:happiness, anger, sadness and neutral. The participants consisted of91university students (29boys and62girls). The program was just the same as experiment1. Results indicated that the participants can recognize the speech emotions, and the judgment was influenced by both prosody and semantic.
