| The research explores how to overcome the fear of evaluation by the depth interview of qualitative research method. From the fear of evaluation (FE) individuals’view point, the research describes and analyses the characteristics of the FE individuals, as well as the mechanisms of how the fear forms. The motivations and difficulties of how to overcome evaluation fear will be further discussed. The research discusses deeply how to go out of evaluation fear through the FE individuals’stories and internalized feelings. The researcher selected five FE individuals who were fitting with research purposes by the purposive sampling. Each of them was interviewed three times for one hour each time. The interviews were all recorded and transferred into texts totaling around 150,000 words. The researcher analyzed the original data in the method of category analysis and scenario analysis. The conclusions are drawn as follows:(1)The FE individuals usually have cognitive, emotional, and behavioral characteristics. Cognitive characteristics include a fanciful egocentric tendency, strong compliance with societal standards, exaggeration of mistakes’consequences, and overthinking things based on social interaction with others; Emotional characteristics include fear, depression and anger; Behavioral characteristics include social avoidance, intimacy exclusion and please others.(2)The reasons why evaluation fear forms in individual include both internal and external factors. Internal factors include self-esteem level, selective attention and ideal self-image; External factors include parental rearing patterns, children’s peer status, school education and authoritative presence.(3)There are not only many motivations but also obstacles for FE individuals to go out of it. Motivations include a strong desire to relieve the pain, the faith of self-improvement, as well as the stable social support system; the obstacles of overcoming this fear are thinking too much and doing too little.(4)Evaluation fear is not easy to overcome. The FE individuals need to continuously observe the inner-self, try to accept themselves, learn to logically and rationally see the world as it is, imitate the acceptable behavior patterns of others, look for support from surrounding environment and learn to relax. |
