| The Story of Han Xiang-zi, which was published in late Ming dynasty, is a serial novel. Composed by 30 chapters, the novel tells the whole story about Han xiang-zi who finally persuaded his uncle, Han-yu, and his family to practice hard to be the immortal being. The Story of Han Xiang-zi refracts the trend that the culture of the eight immortals permeated into the area of novel-writing in late Ming dynasty. The novel describes a magical world while it is also the representation of the civil-published novels, which is abundant of the culture folk.The novel responded to the boom of the Daoism, especially the culture of the eight immortals in Ming dynasty. Besides, the awareness of preaching Daoism, together with the commix identity of publisher and literati played an important role in the progress of writing the novel. What’s more, a series of editions in the following Ming and Qing dynasty, proved the acceptation of the novel. Chapter one discusses the above points.Chapter two studies the figures of the novel. On the one hand, as an immortal being, Han Xiang-zi tries his best to persuade his uncle to be an immortal being too, while on the other hand, Han-yu reflects his persuasion. Both of them have shown in the novel. Also, how the historic person, Han-xiang, turned into a fiction one, is discussed in this chapter.
