Changzhou Garden Literature Research In The Qing Dynasty

Changzhou garden is an important part of the South classical gardens. This thesis studies the literature about Changzhou garden in Qing Dynasty, including garden literature appraise, garden poetry and prose. It focuses on analyzing the theme of garden literature, content and artistic skills. This study will make up the vacancies in literary studies on Changzhou Garden, and enrich the research of southern garden literature.This thesis is divided into six parts, including introduction, four chapters and conclusion. The first part defines the scope of several research topics, analyzes the close relationship between literature and garden, summarizes current research achievements of literature about Changzhou Garden and its significance to this thesis, and discusses the research purpose, importance and research methods.The first chapter is an overview of Changzhou Garden, focusing on the construction of the gardens of Ming and Qing Dynasties, as well as the prosperous reasons and garden style. The second chapter discusses the features of Changzhou garden appraise in Qing Dynasty. The gardens were named with distinct characteristics, so as the buildings and landscapes built inside, which were concise but rich in content. The third chapter discusses the characteristics of the Changzhou garden prose in Qing Dynasty. Garden prose can be divided into two categories. One is concentrating on describing how the garden was built, the other is focusing on the landscape. After analyzing the two different styles and creative modes, this chapter also studies the artistic features from structural arrangements, presentation techniques and language characteristics aspects. The fourth chapter analyzes the characteristics of Changzhou Garden Poetry. Changzhou Garden poetry express three different emotions:the leisure and peaceful mood, enjoying pleasure in good time and many changes in human affairs. In addition, the poetry of Changzhou garden in Qing Dynasty has outstanding features in image contrast, artistic conception creation and the design of space and time.The last part explores the value and status of Changzhou garden literature in Qing Dynasty from history and literary aspects. It records not only the situation of the Qing Dynasty literature garden and the living conditions in the garden, but also helps us to protect and repair Changzhou Gardens. Moreover, it provides important document to Changzhou folk culture in Qing Dynasty.
