The Creation And Performance Interpretation Of Mesian's Four Piano "Preludes"

Oliver Messiaen was a French composer, one of the major composers of the 20th century.He created widely. On the basis of inheriting the excellent tradition of French he developed new creative approaches and music composition-theories which played a link role for the musical development of the 20 century. Messiaen's works not only contain rich harmony language and advanced composition technique but also full of sincere emotion. His excellent works are used for the test pieces of the international competition and repertoires of the concert. And some works are regarded as masterpiece because of its artful conception and abundant substance.Different periods witnessed various piano works created by Messiaen, which uniquely showed the ripeness and evolution of his composing. For these works, Messiaen created for natural scene, devout faith and inspiration for love which were noble and elegant, ingenious, meaningful and enormous.Prelude is the first public works of Olivier Messiaen during his schooling in Paris Music College. It is valuable in the aspects of composing theory research and performance containing eight chapters with specific titles. It's clear from the titles that Messiaen portrayed a picturesque natural scene from the descriptions of scenery, shadows, wind and bell tones. I will select four chapters in this paper, Chapter Two "Chant d'extase dans un paysage triste"?Chapter Three "Le nombre leger", Chapter Four "Instants defunts", and Chapter Five "Les sons impalpables du reve" as research objects to discuss specifically on composing and performance.In this works, through the analysis of creation we can catch Messiaen's application of the modes of limited transposition, elaborate thoughts of rhythm, beat and musical structure and explore the inheritance and innovation the works presents. Based on the creation analysis, it reveals the core of this paper, that is, the narrative of the performance part, started from rhythm, beat, touch key, pedal and so on and relates my own study experienceintroducing how to play better and express the style, emotion of the music. What worth paying attention is that this paper shares the effective ways of exercise. The propose of the creation and performance of Messiaen's four piano "prelude" is to make more and more learners and researchers pay a attention to the value of study and research in Messiaen's early works and to understand and perform musical works accurately, comprehensively.
