Research On The Use Of Repetition Strategies In Simultaneous Interpretation In English And Chinese

Based on the functional equivalence theory,this thesis takes simultaneous interpretation of Ban Ki-moon’s speeches at UN General Assembly as an example.Combining the specific features of simultaneous interpretation and starting from the three aspects,namely,the differences between English and Chinese,the cohesion problems brought by the principle of syntactic linearity and the influence of distribution of concentration,this thesis analyses the specific uses of different kinds of repetition in different simultaneous interpretation situations and discusses the solutions to the problems as well as the effect and the aim.By analyzing the application of this strategy in English-Chinese simultaneous interpretation,this thesis wishes to provide support for the interpreters and the students majoring in interpretation so that they can understand and master the repetition strategy better.If the interpreter can apply the strategy of repetition in SI practice skillfully and properly,the quality of interpretation and the comprehensive capability of the interpreter can hopefully be improved.
