"Adjective + Compound Directional words"of modern Chinese language has never been studied thoroughly and systematically ,because it's always neglected by scholar or studied as a small part of "Verb+ Compound Directional words" in the past.In this case,This article has chosen "Adjective+ Compound Directional Words" as the object, and restricted "Compound Directional Words" as "qilai/xialai/xiaqu",adopting the research method which is a combination of forms and meanings,description and explanation as well as quantitative and qualitative. It also applies Three Plane Language Theory ? functional linguistics ? cognitive linguistic to describe and explain the object systematically .Besides, in view of previous research mainly focused on the construction? semantic meaning and selectional restrictions adjective of"Adjective+Compound Directional words",this article stress the analysis from the point of the collocation of this phrase.This article's content has been divided into four parts:Introduction primarily summarizes the reasons and significance of the topic selection,the research status and tendency as well as the research methods and linguistic data.Chapter one draws a conclusion that the common component anteroposterior position of "Adjective+Compound Directional words" and summarizes into eight syntactic structures by analyzing the linguistic data. On this basis, we get the proportion of every structures in linguistic data, and discover that"Nominal+ Adjective(le)+Compound Directional words(le)"and "Nominal+Adverb/Adjective+' Adjective+Compound Directional words'" occupies the highest proportion.Then we analyze the sentence composition of this eight syntactic structures and categorize them by organizing the data, we draw a conclusion that"Adjective+Compound Directional words" is commonly used as a predicate,secondly as an object and a modifier, least used as a complement.Chapter two discusses the core semantic meaning of"Adjective+qilai/xialai/xiaqu".Then we describe the semantic bleaching from"Verb+qilai/xialai/xiaqu"to "Adjective+qilai/xialai/xiaqu" by using the cognitive language theory and discover that the semantic meanings of all three constitute a relatively complete semantic system when they express a complete character's change events.Chapter three explores semantic categorization of "Adjective+Compound Directional words"in the context of collocation. We divide the"Adjective+Compound Directional words" into two semantic categories based on a summary of formal feature in chapter one and whether the semantic extension being objective or not,which have further been subdivided into seven subclasses.
