Urban Migrant Workers Christian Survey Research

With the continuous advances in urbanization,a large number of rural people migrate into cities.According to a related study conducted by scholars,most Chinese Christians are concentrated in rural areas.There is no doubt that the large number of rural Christians,who migrate from rural areas to the city,encounter non-Christians and Rural Migrant workers of different religious denominations come to Jesus Christ in city area.This paper aims to analyze the Christian migrant workers,who attend the registered church,as the research object.Then gather material around Christian migrant workers’ religious life and social life,and study the Christian migrant workers’characteristics in city area.We will explore how Christian migrant workers adapt and integrate into city life,as well as their situations and characteristics.This paper is divided in five selections:The preface includes the significance the aim,summary of’ the related literature from the domestic Christian research,the research of Christianity in Shaanxi,the research of Christian migrant workers,and explains the objectives and the methods of this research.The first chapter is a comprehensive introduction of the location of the field investigation from history and current status,the organization of the field investigation,and then explains the basic information of interviewees and the selection rule.The second chapter discusses Christian migrant workers’ religious activities,from the perspective of religious rituals,religious experiences and religious practices,involving the participation of the Christian migrant workers,the belief condition,the evangelization,etc.The third chapter discusses the relationship between Christian migrant workers’ social life,combined with interviewees to show the Christian migrant workers’ love and marriage,education of their children,employment attitude,social interaction.The fourth chapter analyzes the Christian migrant workers adaptation and integration to urban life,summarizes the way and characteristics of the Christian migrant workers’ adaptation and integration into urban life.The last part is a summary of this paper.Whether the Christian migrant workers convert to Christianity in rural or city area,for them,left the traditional network based on geography and kinship in their hometown,they face a totally strange urban environment,with survival pressure and the loss of belonging,they live in a marginal state.They have a lot of enthusiasm for spreading the Gospel,in the aspect of prayer and acts,they have an obvious pursuit of pragmatism.They take Christianity as their behavior guidance in both religious and social life.By the reason that Christian faith is the main activity of Christian migrant workers in their spare time and thus becomes the main way they adapt and integrate into the city life.Their Christian identity is kept solid with the continuing religious activities and association with other Christians.Regarding the church and fellowship as the center,Christian migrant workers show the characteristics of the gathering,there has been the fixation of the range of their social activities and a professional "homogenization"phenomenon.
