The flexible structure design and matrix material selection of photonic crystal fiber make it have the optical properties which can not be compared with traditional fibers.The air hole which runs through the whole structure of photonic crystal fiber provides the possibility for the fabrication of material filled fiber devices.This will greatly expand the application field of the photonic devices,and the smaller size of the photonic crystal fiber is also beneficial to the integrated development of the photonic devices.In this paper,based on the finite element method and the mode coupling theory,the polarization filter and sensor of the photonic crystal fiber coated with gold nanoparticles or liquid are designed and simulated,and its performance is studied.The main contents are as follows:Firstly,the background of photonic crystal fiber and the latest research progress at home and abroad are reviewed.The basic characteristics and numerical research methods of photonic crystal fiber are given,and the preparation method and application prospect of photonic crystal fiber are introduced.Secondly,the polarization filter of three kinds of photonic crystal fiber with gold nanscale coated with air holes is designed.The influence of the structure parameters of the fiber on the polarization filtering characteristics of the optical fiber is studied by the finite element method,and the general rules are obtained,and the law is verified.Thirdly,a D-shaped photonic crystal fiber refractive index sensor based on surface plasmon resonance effect is designed.By introducing three open pores on the side of the common D-shaped photonic crystal fiber sensor,the sensitivity of the sensor is improved.and the influence of the change of fiber structure on the sensitivity of the sensor is explored.Finally,study on the performance of ethanol filled refractive index temperature sensor in experiment.The problems in the bonding of photonic crystal fiber and ordinary fiber are studied.The capillary phenomenon and pressure method are used to fill the photonic crystal fiber with alcohol,and the performance of the temperature sensor is tested.
