CrRLK1Lsubfamily is designated as plant specificreceptor-likekinases?RLKs?andcontains 17membersinArabidopsis.Cr RLK1L have been reported to play roles in cell elongation,coordination of cell wall integrity,polar growth,cell-to-cellcommunication between male and female gametophytes,biotic and abiotic responses.20 members of Cr RLK1L have been found in rice.However,therole of which in plant development is poorly understood.In this work,we described thespatio-temporal expression pattern of Os RLK1 and the phenotypes of osrlk1 mutant.O ur results indicate that Os RLK1 plays an important role in rice development.The major results are presented as follows:1.In order to determine the spatio-tempora expression patterns ofOsRLK1,Os RLK1pro-GUStransgenic plants were generated.Gus staining assays showed that it wasexpressed in theembryo,vascular tissuesof coleoptile,root and leaf,it also showed a strong expression in pistil and spikelet.2.We identified a knock-out mutant of Os RLK1,phenotype analysis revealed that disruption of OsRLK1 led to retarded development,semi-dwarf,shorter internode length,increased leaf angle,decreased valid tiller number ratio,and reducedseed setting rate.These data indicate animportant role for Os RLK1 in vegetative and reproductive development of rice.3.The BL sensitivity assay showed that the lamina bending of osrlk1was more obvious than that of wild type under different concentrations of brassinolide,which indicates that osrlk1mutant is more sensitive to BL than wild type.osrlk1mutant also showed increased sensitivity to BL in coleoptile elongation and root wavily growth.4.We analyzed pUbi:RLK1transgenic plants,which displayed the highest expression level of Os RLK1.Phenotype analysis revealed that these plants were indistinguishable to the wild type.Taken together,Os RLK1 isexpressed widely in different tissues and organs of rice and acts in the regulation of plant development.
