Farmland change is a vital part of land use change, while the number and quality of farmland concerns the basic insurance of our food supply.Farmers which account for a large part of china population is also center of national decision making.Recently land abandonment is becoming hot spot of land use studies where multi-disciplinary effort, for example, remote sensing, ecology, economics of public sector, are taken to analyze this phenomenon. These study focus on its cause, drivers, ecological and economical effects. However, domestic studies seldom utilize remote sensing as an effective tool for large area abandonment land detection.Choosing Heilongjiang province as study area for abandonment detection is due to the little attention payed to its land abandonment which mostly out of the hypothesis that farmland left their land for better job offer by big cities,in another words, the repaid urbanization.Heilongjiang possess great land resources and good quality soil, but yearly farmland intensification cause its fertilization decrease and underground water. In 2016,china launched a policy about the circulation of land in north-eastern cold region, where national subsidy arrived to ease the pressure of land and resources. In this paper, analyzing the actual spatial-temporal pattern and factors that matter land abandonment in Heilongjiang province will benefit the land restoration there.
