Debris flow is a common natural phenomenon in mountainous areas of China.Due to the rapid outbreak of debris flow and its fierce onset,it is often accompanied by multiple effects such as collapse, landslides, and floods. It has great destructive power, causing serious casualties and property losses eve ry year, hindering economic development. Therefore, reasonable and effective prediction becomes particularly important.Taking Qipan Gully in Wenchuan County of Sichuan Province as an example, this paper uses Soil Conservation Service SCS distributed hydrological model to calculate the rain water runoff and runoff of the basin by combining the onground parameters such as soil type, slope, and land use type.Through the application of SCS model(empirical formula)the scale of debris flow outbreak is systematically studied, and compared with the actual debris flow on July 11,2013.The results showed that the calculated maximium clear water flow and maximum debris flows are 136.75m3/s and 110.3×104 m3,respectively.The total amount of debris flow is less than 5% compared with the measured value. It is indicated that the debris flow based on SCS hydrological model has certain application significance. The obtained results can promote and improve our knowledge in the prevention and control of debris flow engineering.
