Two-phase partitioning bioreactors(TPPBs)are a relatively new method proposed for overcoming the limitations encountered in the treatment of contaminated air by adding a non-aqueous phase(NAP)to the aqueous phase.NAP could promote mass transfer and handle the fluctuations because of its high affinity for the hydrophobic target pollutants.Silicone rubber was screened as the solid non-aqueous phase(SNAP)of two-phase partitioning bioreactors(TPPBs)by partition coefficient,absorption experiment and batch degradation experiment.Bioflo110 was used to build TPP-stirred tank bioreactor system(TPPSTB),compared with a single-phase stirrer(CSTB)to investigate the potential of TPPBs to remove DCM.It was found that compared with CSTB system,whose maximum elimination capacity(EC)was?130 g/(m3·h),the maximum EC of TPPSTB system with 10%silicone rubber as SNAP was about 394.1 g/(m3·h),which was higher than the maximum EC of DCM literatures reported.The influences of inlet load,inlet concentration,residence time,and shock loads have been examined.The removal efficiency(RE)of TPPSTB with 10%silicone rubber as NAP always maintained at above 80%under the conditions of DCM inlet loading of bellow 450 g/(m3·h)and residence time of 40 ?120 s.In addition,the TPPSTB system had a good resistance to transient shock loads and starvation.The RE of TPPSTB system decreased from-90%to-40%when the inlet load increased from 150 g/(m3-h)to 450 g/(m3-h)and it could recovered to the initial level after the transient shock load.The TPPSTB system was operated without DCM or air for 48 h,but it could recovered to the initial level after starvation.Dissolved oxygen dynamics of the TPPSTB with silicone rubber as NAP was studied.It was found that the increase of the stirring rate,superficial gas flow and solid holdup were helpful for the oxygen mass transfer coefficient KLa and gas holdup ?.In addition,dissolved oxygen mass transfer kinetic model KLa=?(S/V)?(T)cM? was fitted based on experimental conditions to delve into dissolved oxygen mass transfer.The maintain coefficient of H13 bacteria is 0.157 and the biggest cell yield coefficient is 2.674 through fitting the substrate consumption dynamics qs=1/YX/S?+mS.
