At present,a certain number of tailing dams still exist in China.Tailing dam has the possibility of dam-break or leakage,so tailing dam is an important hazard source of mine production.Upstream tailing dam is more vulnerable to earthquake which then causes dam failure due to its particular stacking method.Therefore,this article studied the response characteristics and stability of tailing dam under earthquake.The main researches contents in this paper are as follows:(1)By having a field investigation to the tailing dam,tailings were retrieved.After conducting the grain size analysis test and the direct shear test in the lab,the particle characteristics were analyzed and the shear strength parameters of tailings were obtained.(2)The two-dimensional model of the tailing dam was established using Geo Studio software.The seepage analysis was carried out using SEEP/W module.The seepage results are imported into the SIGMA/W module of Geo Studio software,and the initial stress field was formed by the fluid-solid coupling analysis in the static state.(3)The fluid-solid coupling analysis of tailing dam in different water level conditions was performed using QUAKE/W module.The changes of horizontal displacement,velocity and acceleration were researched of tailing dam under earthquake.The distribution of pore water pressure after the earthquake was observed.(4)The stability analysis of tailing dam under earthquake condition was carried out using reliability theory.The failure probability,reliability index,safety factor of tailing dam with different water level were calculated respectively when the working condition was at the seismic intensity of 0,8 and 9.The conclusion is,when the water level stays the same,the greater the seismic intensity,the higher the probability of failure.The reliability index,the safety factor are all relatively small.When the seismic intensity stays the same,the failure probability at flood water level is greaterthan the normal water level,whereas all the other indicators are smaller than the normal water level.
