Water is the origin of life, and the river is one of the most important water resources, which is not only a basic ecosystem on earth, but the cradle of human civilization. In the history of several thousand years, the development of human and social ecosystem has been closely connected with rivers.Human, however,in spite of disturbance of the river ecosystem in exchange of social and economic profits, implements unreasonable exploitation in a large scale and inappropriate release of rural and domestic contaminants, which leads to severe ecological damage.Given that natural disasters are frequently seen worldwide,we realize that our life and production activities put the river ecosystem on the edge of danger.Environmentalists and related administrators start to focus on its conditions, and set about working out measures of protection and recovery. Therefore,it's urgent to build a relatively comprehensive assessment system for river conditions,so as to continue thorough planning and management of river ecosystem, and coordinate basin social and economic development and sustainable development of water ecology.Water ecological health assessment of Pu river basin was implemented and the river ecological health report card was also completed, according to four basic groups of monitoring indexes, which were 15 in total including physicochemical and biological indexes, and were based on physical, chemical and biological integrity. The result of the comprehensive assessment in 2016 showed that six sites were “normal”,including Xingguoqiao,Mujiaqiao,Guodaqiao,Puheyan and Zhaojiatao. The other four sites were “poor”,where major contaminants were ammonia, nitrogen and total phosphorus. The overall score of the whole basin was 0.428,which was still “normal” but close to “bad”.With reference to the assessment result of all the monitoring sites within Pu river basin in 2016,operational application selected appropriate monitoring sections and measuring indexes.SPSS 19.0 also provided cluster analysis for 10 monitoring section within Pu river basin. As a result, five sections, which contained Xinguoqiao,Houjitiqiao,Xiaohunhezha,Zhaojiatao and Puheyan, were decided to be the optimized monitoring sections of water ecological health assessment in Pu river basin.Through further selection with the help of principle component analysis and correlation analysis,11 of the 15 monitoring indexes were finally determined, including EC,BOD,volatile phenol, ammonia and nitrogen,TP,algae S,algae H',algae BP,demersal BP and others.Difference analysis of T-tests showed that the optimized results could represent the comprehensive conditions of Pu river basin, and simplify the courses of future sampling and analyzing. The assessment results would be recorded on the ecological health report cards to directly provide the physicochemical index of water quality and biological index within all the monitoring sections, and comprehensive water ecological health assessment results.
