As a class of gaseous pollutants,volatile organic compounds(VOCs)have seriously threatened the physical and mental health of human beings and the quality of the ecological environment.A large number of organic waste gases including the high concentrations of VOCs have been discharged into the atmosphere,resulting in a serious environmental degradation and huge economic loss.In this paper,we collected the gas sample produced in the course of working process of a factory,the main components of the organic wastes analyzed by the third party were benzene,toluene,xylene and cyclohexane.The total emission concentration reached 546 g m-3,which has seriously exceeded the National emission standards and local environmental emission standards.Such large amount of emission have caused a certain degree of pollution to the surrounding environment,therefore it is urgent to control and reduce the emissions of VOCs.Carbon fibers exhibit the advantages of low energy consumption,low cost,mature process,simple operation,etc.In this work,the thermal desorption behavior of toluene,xylene and cyclohexane on different activated fibers were studied via thermogravimetric analysis.The dynamic desorption properties of activated carbon fiber for other VOCs were also investigated.The material consumption,energy consumption,investment and treatment cost,etc.were analyzed.The results showed that the adsorption and recovery process of organic waste gas on activated carbon fibers have the advantages of high treatment and good recovery efficiency.In the meantime,the schematic treatment process of VOCs using carbon fibers has been completed in this paper.This method using carbon fibers to deal with VOCs could achieve good economic and social benefits,and effectively control the pollution of VOCs to meet the emission standard of the country.It has a good prospect of application in the industrial VOCs treatment.
