Young Companion is a comprehensive pictorial.At that time,it had a profound impact on the society.From the time Young Companion was born until the time it was forced to suspend publication for the first time,it was also the “Golden Decade” of the middle period of the Republic of China.The influence of western culture on Chinese women’s clothing has produced special clothing styles,cheongsam,has become a typical combination of Chinese and western culture.This phenomenon has caused us to think deeply about the Chinese and western cultures’ contacts and collision behind the transformation of women’s dress.Study of the characteristics of women’s wear in Young Companion and reveals the reasons for the reform of the dress culture in the Republic of China.It has certain reference value for how to absorb the essence of Western culture and develop the advantages of its own culture to enable its culture to be in a leadership and dominance,Under the background of globalization today,in the process of collision and conflict between Chinese and Western cultures.Starting with the pictures of Young Companion of 1926 to 1937,this article studies the women’s clothing reform of Shanghai,and reveals the cultural communication between Chinese and western cultures.First of all,through the literature research method,we investigate the related literature of Young Companion and collect the images of women’s clothing in Young Companion.The first chapter expounds the research background,research significance,research status,research methods and innovations.The second chapter,descriptive research method is used to comprehensively narrate the birth and development of Young Companion,and studies the development trend of women’s clothing culture in the Republic of China in conjunction with Young Companion.Through the pictures of women’s clothing published in Young Companion,the main styles of women’s clothing in Shanghai from 1926-1937 were studied.Each dress changed differently over time.The changing process formed the unique features of women’s clothing in the era.Therefore,the development trend of Shanghai women’s clothing from 1926-1937 can be summarized.The third chapter analyzes the factors influencing the change of women’s clothing culture in the Republic of China.At that moment,western culture has had a great influence on China since the Opium War and its influence has continued to deepen.With the changes in Chinese values and aesthetics,the style of Chinese women’s clothing has become more and more open.Using qualitative analysis method,this article analyzes the cultural motivation behind this kind of transformation during 1926 to 1937 from the perspective of cultural communication.The fourth chapter summarizes the enlightenment and significance,and forecasts the development of modern Chinese women’s clothing.The communication of Chinese and western cultures can be clearly reflected in Shanghai women’s clothing from 1926 to 1937.Because Chinese and Western cultures are completely different in many aspects,there will be more cultural collisions between these two different cultures.By studying the pictures of women’s clothing published in Young Companion,it can be concluded that the characteristics of women’s clothing reform in the Republic of China,which was affected by Social culture,Economic culture,western culture then and also a reflection of the cultural communication between China and the West.Thus,through the study of women’s clothing culture in the Republic of China,we can reveal the cultural communication between China and the West behind the women’s clothing and Summed up the reference to the development of women’s dress in today’s society.In today’s world of cultural integration,the national characteristics of Chinese clothing have gradually weakened.It is hoped that by learning from the development of the cheongsam during the period of the Republic of China,Chinese women’s wear can continue to inherit and promote national characteristics on the basis of catering to the world’s aesthetics.
