Gun drilling is a high efficient and high precision deep-hole processing method in the modern machinery manufacturing industry,especially as the development of the carbide alloy and coated cutters,extensively adopted in the world,but it also exists some shortage such as complex processing manufacture,low rigidity,not proper for big diameter hole.Ductile iron has characteristics of simple production process,low cost,low removal and free-cutting machinability,so has been widely used in the machinery and the automotive industry,but the ductile iron deep-hole drilling are few researches.Therefore,in order to improve ductile iron’s hole quality machining efficiency and tool life,the present research was focused on the study of ductile iron cutting mechanism of welding carbide gun drill by way of theoretical mode and finite element simulation analysis,meanwhile analyzed the cutting performance under different conditions of cutting parameters.Firstly,Equilibrium equation was established by means of the comprehensive analysis of structural characteristics of gun drill and used specific energy model of twist drilling and the method of integrating to analyze and calculation thrust force and cutting torque mathematical expression.Secondly,Use Matlab to numerical calculus the previously equation to analyze the relationship between tool geometrical parameter and thrust force and cutting torque for tool selection of the future experiment,and use the finite element analysis software Deform-3D to analysis the drilling force,drilling chips and the temperature of the drilling process.At last,single factor experiment of drilling ductile iron was used to study the change rule of thrust force and cutting torque with the cutting parameters.Hole machining quality was evaluated through a multi-criteria consisting of the output measures that were hole-diameter,cylindricity and roughness,found out ideal cutting parameters in order to achieve the quality hole dimensional and geometric tolerance,and the wear mechanism as well as the relationship between the chip form and cutting parameter was studied.The results indicate that when use the speed over 2800r/min,feed between 0.020mm/r and 0.028mm/r,and reasonable chip removal method,we can obtain high quality level during deep hole drilling.
