| Construction site is a dynamic and very complex environment with high accident rate.Construction industry is regarded as one of the most dangerous industries.Construction safety has become an issue of great concern and urgent to be solved.Safety education is considered as a perfect solution to it.However,the classic pedagogical methods and tools have much shortcoming and don’t work well.With the development of technologies like virtual reality,there have also been some explorations of using this technology for safety education in academia.But there is still much room for improvement.So,this research aims to propose an effective safety education system using virtual reality to improve the current situation.The system proposed in this thesis is consist of three main parts.The first is textual analysis of the current construction safety related norms and specifications.The characteristics and key prevention information of hazards will be pick up in this part.The second part is the reality modelling of corresponding hazards.Realistic 3D model of suitable hazards will be created in this part.The last part is contextualization of safety knowledge and response skills.By interaction and safety story design,safety knowledge and response skills will be integrated into the reality model based virtual environment.This part is the key of the system and safety education.According to the system proposed in this thesis,a prototype supporting HTC VIVE was finished.And the prototype was verified and evaluated by the means of in-depth interviews.The results show that the methods of the system proposed in this thesis is feasible.A very realistic safety scene can be created by reality modelling.And it can significantly increase the participators’ degree of involvement and motivation,thereby improving the effectiveness of construction safety education.This research provides a new idea for the research and practice of construction safety education.The system proposed in this thesis can be also be used as the theoretical and method basis for the commercial application of construction safety education.What’s more,this research will inspire researchers to introduce advanced technologies into the field of construction safety education and promote the improvement of safety management. |
