Analysis Of James O’Connor’s Double Crisis Theory

The great development of productive forces brought about by industrialization has led to the rapid increase of the economic strength of all countries.The heavy price that such a development has inflicted on the ecological environment is a problem that all countries have to face.The ecological crisis has become an important issue that needs to be considered for the survival and development of mankind.The double crisis theory proposed by James O’Connor opens up new doors to our reexamination of the global spread of ecological crisis and the relationship between man and nature.O’Connor used the explanation frame of Marxism combined with the fruitful achievements made by the early Ecological Marxism in the ecological field and reconstructed the Trinitarian view of history of "nature,culture and social labor" and recognized the second contradiction that produces underproduction(The contradiction between productivity,relations of production and conditions of production)is to supplement the first contradiction between Marx’s labor and capital(although O’Connor’s theory is actually more profound although the second one is usually regarded as a theory of environmental degradation)Capitalism is bound to undermine the "conditions of production" in order to maintain an endless accumulation of capital.Therefore,through the further extension of the second contradiction,the double crisis of economy and ecology was deduced.From the accumulation of capitalism,the application of science and technology of capitalism,and the unbalanced and united developments,the crisis was analyzed in detail.He pointed out that the solution to the crisis Approach is to take the road to ecological socialism,double crisis theory can occupy the important position in its ecological thinking.Double crisis theory has made some useful contributions,such as enriching and developing the related fields of Marxism,exploring the combination of theoretical criticism and realistic movement and exploring new social models.However,there are also some misunderstandings including Marxism-related views,There are some biases in crisis cognition and envisaged ecological socialism with utopian color,so this requires us to use Marxism to further clarify this theory.Of course,O’Connor’s theory also contains many important values,such as emphasis on production conditions and productive justice,for us to cultivate the concept of ecology and show the superiority of socialism has an important inspiration.In practice,the analysis of thethree causes of the existence of the double crisis contains some reference values that can be used for reference to strengthen the positive interaction between the construction of ecological civilization with Chinese characteristics and economic development,the development of ecological technologies,vigilance and resistance to ecological colonization.
